Summary0000363: Could not find/open font Times in ...
Description

If I generate Postscript, gv fails with the error message
<CD>
Error: /invalidfont in findfont

</CD>

If instead I try to generate PNG, dot fails with the error message
<CD>
Error: Could not find/open font : Times in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType:/usr/X...
</CD>

I have tried extending DOTFONTPATH with every directory containing a fonts.dir file, but to no avail.

Tried several samples from graphs/directed.

Example command line

/usr/local/prog/graphviz-1.12/bin/dot -Tpng graphs/directed/viewfile.dot -o /tmp/viewfile.png
Additional Information

There is nothing wrong with the Postscript file; it prints on my PS printer.

I compiled Graphviz from source.

I have never before had any trouble with gv or any of the other
tools (ps2pdf et c.) that use gs. This problem is unique to graphviz.

[erg] Another user reported the program with .png files. In his case, it
turned out that the true type fonts were not installed. Other programs
were able to use the fonts installed as part of tex.

It seems pretty clear, barring further evidence, that this is also the
case in the original report. Similarly, gs must not be installed correctly,
since we are simply using the font Times-Roman, which is a built-in font
of postscript and one we've been using for 15 years.
