Summary0000351: allocating a 0K GD image

Downloaded and compiled the graphviz package with gcc on HP-UX platform.
I have installed the libpng, libz and libjpeg packages (binary depots).
dot works fine when outputting text (ps, fig), but not with image formats (gif, png, jpg).

When running the dot command on a file generated by doxygen the dot program gives the following error:

bash-2.05b$ dot -Tjpg -v
network simplex: 9 nodes 8 edges 0 iter 0.00 sec
mincross: pass 0 iter 0 trying 0 cur_cross 0 best_cross 0
mincross G: 0 crossings, 0.00 secs.
network simplex: 33 nodes 44 edges 9 iter 0.00 sec
routesplines: 8 edges, 120 boxes, 0 splines 0.01 sec
dot: allocating a 0K GD image
gd-jpeg: error: unable to allocate JPEG row structure: gdCalloc returns NULL

Other formats (gif, png) don't work either.
For gif the program hangs taking all the cpu. For png is gives a 'gd-png: fatal libpng error: Invalid image size in IHDR'
In all cases there is a 'dot: allocating a 0K GD image' line in the -v output

When run on the package sample .dot files the dot segmenatation faults.
I have recompiled many times now, and no apperent errors are shown.
'ldd dot' works fine, all libraries are found.
