I'm sorry, but I don't understand why you would even consider this to be a bug?
And if so, why aren't you reporting it to the dash developers, for failing to emulate POSIX /bin/sh fully?

The other issue is that, if you are starting from our portable sources in graphviz-*.tar.gz (which is a good idea), then the build steps should be just:

    ./configure
    make
    make install

You should not be rerunning the automake, autoconf, libtoolize steps as they are less portable.
