Error installing graphviz on Debian

Hello,
I downloaded the latest source tarball (2.38.0) and am trying to install it into my home directory using:

./configure --prefix=$HOME/local --exec-prefix=$HOME/local --disable-shared && make && make install.

My system is  Debian 3.16.7.

The configure and make step runs, but the make install step crashes as below. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is there probably more info

Is there probably more info about which os are suitabale? I am currently thinking about changing mine and need to know whether graphviz will work properly there.

why --disable-shared?

I don't think this works on most operating systems any more, as they do not necessarily provide static version of libc.

You could try --enable-static as an alternative.
