Got: loading cache ./config.cache configure: error: can not find install-sh or install.sh in . ./.. ./../..

Is install.sh supposed to included in the distribution, or is this an external dependency?

The tar ball release will contain a configure script ready to run, plus old make makefiles. These latter will be overwritten if the user runs configure.
