Title: Installation blocking error caused by Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
Submitter: David Dernoncourt
Date: Thu Apr 7 11:45:25 2011
Subsys: Build/Installation
Version: 2.26.3
System: Other-Windows-Se7en x64
Severity: major
Problem:
As reported earlier on Vista (http://www.graphviz.org/bugs/b1829.html), in some conditions installation will fail on Windows 7.

This seems to be caused by this bug in Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/121817/error-1935-an-error-occurred-during-the-installation-of-assembly-microsoft-vc80-mfc-processorarchitecture-x86-publickeytoken-1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b.

The current workaround is pretty random and heavy: http://notepad.patheticcockroach.com/1683/fixing-grapvizs-installation-error-related-to-microsoft-vc80-crt/
Fix:
I think this error most likely happens on computers which already have Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable installed. So, two possible fixes:

- provide an alternative installer without Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
- or, when the installer detects an installation failure of the VC2005redist, provide the option to ignore that error and just continue the installation procedure
