[alan] It isn't the msi, but the component that crashed during installation was referred to as misc0.tmp.

Should that have been the dot?

It crashes during the install, and the installer then rolls back all changes and tells me I'll have to run the installer to try again.

It sounds almost as if the installer is trying to run a data file instead of an executable.

[arif] msi runs dot -c during the installation but I believe that (and have just checked it with Emden) graphviz has nothing to do with "misc0.tmp".It sounds like an internal msi issue. Can you check if you have read/write permissions on your machine's temporary folder? Do you have installation problems with other programs too. It would not be not surprising that your msi engine would be corrupted because of a virus, spyware etc. Do you have a chance to test it on a different windows machine.I have installed graphviz on two machines today and didn't have a problem.

[alan] I tried it on another machine and it installed successfully.

I haven't had any other installation problems, but when I tried rebooting it didn't work well. (Had to use safe mode and go back to a previous restore point.

So something must be wrong with that machine.
